Principal

Overview

The Principal is responsible for leading the mission and executing the strategic plan of East Central Illinois Christian School to the glory of God. They will work diligently to create a strong Christian school identity and culture that inspires our students towards a deeper walk with Jesus Christ, builds a high-quality, academic foundation, and creates opportunities to develop the whole child through additional extra-curricular activities. The Principal will also lead, manage, and oversee all staff, faculty, operations, and activities to ensure the policies established by the Board of Directors are accomplished in every aspect of the school.

Qualifications
  • Be a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and be actively involved in the local church.
  • Have a biblical worldview with a strong knowledge of God’s Word.
  • Master’s degree in education, Educational Administration/Leadership, or other educational discipline. Previous Christian school administration experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years school teaching experience.
  • A servant leader whose conduct demonstrates Biblical principles, personal integrity, and professionalism.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator.
  • Strong desire to build all students’ spiritual, physical, social, emotional, and academic foundations in preparation to engage the world.
  • A strategic and collaborative thinker who uses their ability to see the big picture to evaluate and make thoughtful decisions for the school.
  • A willingness and passion for working effectively and productively with teachers, students, and their parents in all school programs.
  • An ability and willingness to deal with issues promptly, which includes excellent interpersonal skills to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
  • An openness to receive feedback on issues that will facilitate the growth and achievement of the school.
  • A commitment to model and promote life-long learning in themselves and the lives of the faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

Personal Growth

  • Growing relationship with Jesus Christ and active church member.
  • Work to continually grow their administrative skills that promote strong leadership abilities to execute their role.

Teachers

  • Hire all teachers after confirmation of the Board.
  • Review teachers annually and keep a file on each teacher.
  • Provide staff development opportunities, in-service, etc.
  • Hold regular staff meetings; create weekly, monthly, and yearly calendars, and communicate via email or other means.
  • Be responsible for the dismissal of a teacher with the support of the school board.
  • In the event it becomes necessary for the discipline and or dismissal of a teacher or other school employee, the Headmaster must have appropriate documentation to warrant such action and the Board should be informed of such actions.

Administration

  • Responsible for the hiring of the administrative staff with board consent.
  • Will conduct annual performance reviews for all administrative staff.
  • Hold regularly scheduled administrative meetings.
  • Provide staff development opportunities for administrative staff.
  • Be responsible for the dismissal of administrative staff with the support of the school board.

Board

  • Attend Board meetings as requested to present the Headmaster Report and be involved in other necessary Board activities.
  • Assist the Finance Committee in creating the school budget annually.
  • Assist in setting teachers’ salaries and benefits.
  • Aid in the development of school policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the creation and modification of the school’s strategic plan.

Communication

  • Will direct the website development.
  • Will direct the publicity of the school.

Admissions

  • Meet with parents and conduct tours of the school.
  • Oversee the development of Marketing, brochures, and pamphlets for admissions.
  • Attend the open house or any other related admissions events.

Development

  • Will direct the development of the annual fundraising efforts.
  • Attend events related to fundraising.

Curriculum

  • Meet with the board and/or staff curriculum representative.
  • Oversee the ordering of textbooks and testing materials.
  • Assist teachers in continually updating the scope and sequence at each grade level.
  • Yearly review of curriculum effectiveness.

Additional Duties

  • Oversee weekly chapel services.
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by the School Board.
Compensation
  • Training, seminars, and conferences paid for by ECICS.
  • ECICS credit card for school-related travel, meals, and other expenses.
  • Sick days and personal days.

Teacher

Overview

The qualified individual must be a Christian committed to living a Biblical lifestyle. They must demonstrate patience, humility, integrity, and kindness while performing their day-to-day duties. Teachers must be devoted to prayerfully working with administration, faculty, students, and parents to develop and maintain a school that is thoroughly Christian and academically superb. All teaching staff are directly responsible to the Principal.

Qualifications
  • Be a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and actively involved in the local church.
  • Have a Biblical worldview with a strong knowledge of God’s Word.
  • Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions towards others.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, or other educational discipline. Previous Christian school experience preferred.
  • Two or more years of school teaching experience is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator.
  • Strong desire to build students’ spiritual, physical, social, emotional, and academic foundations in preparation to engage the world.
  • Ability and willingness to deal with issues promptly.
  • An openness to receive feedback.
  • Love and understand other faculty, students, and their parents.
  • Be team-oriented.
  • An unwavering commitment to the ECICS vision and mission.
Responsibilities
  • Teachers will provide classroom instruction in Grades K-8 depending on grade level.
  • Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and be prepared to assist them in that task.
  • Must have computer skills to employ computer programs to post grades and communicate with parents.
  • A willingness and ability to assist in total school program and extra-curricular activities.
  • Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation and to grow in their faith.
  • Maintain clear, open, and professional communication with parents.
  • Possess the ability to work gracefully with parents, students, and other school staff to develop a unified and successful educational program.
  • Demonstrate the ability to accept and carry out responsibilities and make competent, professional decisions.
  • Maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and in agreement with school policy.
  • Eagerly participate in professional development.
  • Work with administration to keep parents adequately informed of student discipline.
  • Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities by building on a Biblical worldview foundation in every area.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials to facilitate active learning.
  • Assess students’ learning regularly and maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.
  • Represent the school favorably and professionally to the school’s constituency and the general public.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled chapel services, in-service, retreats, and committee, faculty, and parent-teacher organization meetings.
  • Attend staff meetings regularly and on time.
  • Cooperate with the administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the school’s operation.
  • All teaching staff are directly responsible to the Administrator/Principal.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the administration, remembering that our work is for Him: “Wherefore we labor, that, whether absent or present, we may be accepted of Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9).
  • Acknowledge that leading, teaching, or working in this school ministry is a privilege.
  • Remember that we stand before our students and their parents representing the Lord.
Classroom Management
  • Each teacher will maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
  • Teachers should open classes with prayer and pray during the day with and for students.
  • Each teacher should enforce the school’s discipline policy.
  • Teachers should identify individual student needs and work with colleagues and other learning professionals to offer every opportunity for success to each student.
  • Each teacher will supervise students in different settings as needed, including recess, the cafeteria, the classroom, assemblies, and field trips.
  • Teachers will grade and return student work promptly.
  • Each teacher will send out assignments and pertinent information weekly.
  • Enter grades into the online grade book at a minimum weekly.
